Hello everyone! The big news
today is that we are on our way to St. John's. We
had to give up the last two hauls but we have covered all strata and to all
practical and statistical effects we can consider the survey finished and be
proud of it. We
have done everything we could but in the end the chained storms (what a month!)
and the crab traps got the upper hand. We also have a gale coming our way from the
southwest, so we did not have many options. But
as Shackleton made very clear, a timely withdrawal is a victory and we have every
reason to celebrate the end of the survey: no one was injured, we have not
suffered any breakdowns or lost gear and we have achieved our goals.
We will wait to be on dry land to get to celebrate because we are responsible people. Today we have to pack, clean our cabins for the next shift, and I have to finish counting fish.

For most of the participants in the survey this stop is just a very short pause, so hopefully they will be able to enjoy a few hours of relax, even though the Vizconde's crew will continue with their shifts to make the ship ready for the next survey, starting this Wednesday.
You will hear again from us tomorrow.
Very proud of you!
