Good evening, Earthlings.
It is SO late! Today has been an unusual day. Because of the bad forecast yesterday
we agreed on meeting at 7 to decide if we could fish or not. After a quick
evaluation of the situation the Captain decided we could have a go and we took
one haul in shallow waters. However, the weather worsened while we were at it
and we had to call it a day. So here we are, waiting for the storm to pass. It
hasn’t been too bad. We have had more rolling when hauling in the gear,
actually. We have seen a Portuguese trawler, the Coimbra, the stern to the
wind, and we have also seen one of the small boats from St John’s fishing for
crabs. They must have had a rough day but then it was not worth to travel one
whole day to land and avoid this storm that it’s going to take less than that
to pass.

An easy day for
the biologists on board. The crew has been busy, at least part of them: the
kitchen, the bridge and the unfortunate souls that had their shift this
morning. And Nair, who had a CTD cast and then had to type in some more data.
And me, working all day on the survey report.

There was water for everybody |
At dinner time
somebody was commenting that it is more fun when we are fishing, but do not
worry because we will be back to our routine tomorrow. In the bridge we have
already decided how to proceed and we have plan A, B and even C.
To fill the void
here you have some artwork from Jose Luis’ team. They claim group authorship
and insist that they are better than the other team.
