Morning everybody! We woke up with better
weather than yesterday, 10 knots wind. Let’s hope there will be no rain in
Galicia today so all those beautiful flower carpets on display today can be
enjoyed as they deserve, after all people have been working on them several
weeks already.
Our conditions will worsen later today.
There is this low, hanging onto our study area without moving much. It has
already forced us to change our route and this year we will start where we
usually finish, with the northernmost hauls at 46ºN. The low should move
eastwards while we work there but nevertheless we will not escape it entirely.
Let’s hope we can work even if conditions are not ideal.
Did I say yesterday that there was not much
excitement on board about the football game? Well, what they lacked in numbers
they had it in enthusiasm... I was in the bridge during most of the game and I
can tell you that Javier and the Captain suffered a great deal. We detected a 2
minutes delay between the continent and the internet broadcast, and towards the
end I started a whatsapp chat with a friend in Alicante, who was also watching
the match and he gave me the result before we heard it here. I nearly told the
guys, fearing that they were on the verge of a heart attack. What I am really
sorry about is that I didn’t have the video camera ready. I missed a very good
shot with all the screaming and the jumping about! I have no words, really...
Those of us that are not into football had
nevertheless reasons to be cheerful today: Sunday, croissants for breakfast,
everybody is up early wether they have to work or not. In the old days it was
also “jamón day”, but we got our jamón last Wednesday. Not sure there
will be any left now because it was already a pitiful sight at breakfast. Not
to talk about how badly we cut it. We know a fair bit about fish, but cutting
jamón? We are hopeless, absolutely hopeless...
Jamón or not,
mums worry not!!! We are eating superbly, too well I dare to say… it may be a
mistake but I cannot help uploading pics of the tapas we will be treated
to today. By the way, the cooks are not only very good in their trade, they are
also very patient… they had a number of onlookers today, all of us behaving
very well while all those delicacies passed before our eyes… until somebody
entered the kitchen and in a single movement opened the door and got a handful
of calamari!!! Some people are not trustworthy, are they?
The kitchen at full throttle, Bouzas and Santomé standing to the left and Héctor and Manuel in the background. |
And these are just the appetizers... |
Yet more delicacies... |
Buenos tardes soy tu sobrino NICOLÁS Pórcel. Estoy leyendo tu blog. Es muy chulo. Lo que más me gusta es ver cómo os vais desplazando con el barco. Ya estáis muy lejos de España. Me gustaría saber cómo estáis y cómo se ve el Océano. Qué peces vais a capturar. Yo también he hecho un experimento hace poco de Ciencias sobre las baterias. A lo mejor podéis colgar algún video cortito, por favor. Un abrazo de Nico, Alfon, César y Mencía. :)
